Lets go into some further details on this concept. Ok the first of the trilogy: lets it's reality in so far as it is what you make of it. There's good stuff, bad stuff and you only get out of it what you put into it. How does that translate to an actual story or NWN module? Ehhhh....Lets say it's a big city with normal problems. You know the old woman with the rat problem in the basement (original!), the encroaching orcs on the outskirts, the infested sewer perhaps. Then the local mayor asks the player to go on a special quest to find a lost magical item.
That'd be the main quest. First the player is introduced to the universe, normal-looking NWN fodder, and then...bam! a mysteries main quest. The player is sent to find long lost magical item not knowing why or what he is looking for. Once found the player has to find his way back to city and return the item back to the mayor.
Basically the theme for this first part would something like not liking reality and asking oneself what you'd be willing to do or sacrifice to make reality a utopia.
Once the magical item is given to the mayor (or whatever) the real climax of the plot is on. The population of the city, upon learning of this unilateral decision to completely change the entire structure of society, causes much strife and leads to civil war. Some of society, though not happy with not being told of this new magic seem to agree with it. Others are so outraged they decide they will try to stop the magic from being implemented. Then there's the indeterminate middle public who are not sure one-way or another what they want. The status quoi and what it takes to change it, that's the real theme here.
Then the irony: the real antagonist wanted a civil war to happen, the magic after all would make all this suffering end. The obvious suffering would of course push popular opinion toward the quick, easy, magic solution. So really it wouldn't matter what the outcome of the civil war is to the antagonist because the war would drive the malleable public opinion toward the easy solution.
Of course once this solution is implemented it will really be impossible to remove and no Towzians will really bother to want to change this new status quoi. Those that do simply leave the city to become an outsider. This first part would of course end with the magic getting implemented, creating the utopian society.
Ok I think I got most of the plot at least for the first episode out of the way. Now what about the characters, sub-plots, side quests and how death is handled? More to think about!
Lets say the implementation of the magic makes everybody not only immortal but able to choose how much and when they age. Ah, a perfect gimmick so characters can be transferred from one episode to the next even if time periods are many years apart for each episode.
Alright so what is this goin to be called? So Well Soon: Episode 1? Seems a little on th nose don't ya think? I'll have to come back to the title.
What another great brainstorming session.
