"Are we ready to go in yet, Vincent? Do you know if it's safe to go through this door here?" Adrian asked.
"I am not sure, actually. You know the Towzians better than I do, would they put a sign here if there was death on the other side?" Vincent asked.
"I'm not sure that's the way they think. But when you put it that way we're going in." Adrian said.
Vincent, Cogil, Ryan and Adrian went through started twoards the door. Vincent took the lead, all this was his idea, after all. He turned the knob of the door and went through, the others following. The next room was extremely large and almost all empty but this one was quite well lit. Cogil noticed this detail right away and also noticed he could not tell where the source of the light was coming from. This normally would not be important but it still bothered him for some reason.
"Does anybody know where that light source is coming from?" Cogil asked.
"Does that really matter right now Cogil? Lets just see where we are here. What's that, over there?" Vincent replied, noticing something odd off in the distance.
The four of them moved towards the odd looking object in the distance not quite sure exactly what it was. As they drew closer it appeared to be several people like in a large circle of especially bright light as compared to the lighting around them. As Vincent, Cogil, Ryan and Adrian approached these several people they noticed they they all looked rather odd and it was hard to tell exactly what they were doing or why they were in the state there were in. Vincent, Cogil, and Ryan stopped just short of the area of light, while Adrian started to walk around the frozen figures, styding them.
"Do you know what is going on, Adrian? What in the world is this?" Vincent found this whole thing very confusing. Why all the security? Why the secrecy? There was no one else apparently odwn here so why bother proecting anyone from seeing these figures standing here, forzen?
"I am not sure what is going on or why, but if this is indeed the source of the Towzian power I have a feeling some alter-Towzians will be showing up rather soon. All we should have to do in that case is wiat." Adrian finally explained, though this should little light on the subject for the rest of the group members.
There were four people in the cylinder of light, all apparently forzen in time. Tow of them were young girls, probably twelve or thirteen and looked very much alike, like a set of twins. A third was much older, with a concerend look on his face. Probably the father of the girls. The last person was another man, also looking very concerned towards the girls. Of the girls on eof them was laying down on some sort of cot or hospital bed of some kind. The other girls was facing away from the first three, her arms crossed and an angry look on her face. This whole thing made no sense to any of them.
"What in the world are we looking at guys? This is just too wierd. And why are they here anyway?" Vincent asked, still very confused sounding.
"I am not sure, but I think I know what this might be." Ryan said.
Vincent, Cogil and Adrian all looked over at Ryan, in abject surprise and abhorence.
"Well don't look so surprised.
What just because I'm an author I can't have some good ideas every so often. Man, you poeple." Ryan scoffed.
"Jeeze, sensitive. Ok mister smart guy, what exactly are we looking here then, anyway? All I see are four people in rather odd looking postures standing around." Cogil ramarked.
"Well", Ryan said, "I think what might be going on here is some sort of dilema that occurred during the last Towzian age and it was terrible and tore so many people in different directions the concept just overloaded a bunch of people minds. So rather than deal with the people at the time simply put the figures in question into suspended animation." Ryan tried to explain, though the others didn't seem to much be buying it.
"Uh ryan? That's load of crap and we are not buying it. I mean, what the hell is that??" Cogil exclaimed.
"What, you don't think it could happen? It could happen. Some people don't want to deal with difficult issues directly or hard choices with seemingly no good choice to choose from." Ryan said, disgusted.
"Alright, that still doesn't make much sense. Why are they here? Why aren't they up in Towz on display or something?" Cogil asked.
"Now that I'm not sure of. Perhaps this is something the regular Towzians wouldn't understand? Adrian, what do you think?" Ryan turned to Adrian.
"That is probably accurate This does not fit into the mold of the main Towzian mind. As to why what you described or anyone else in suspended animation would be down here I still don't know." Adrian explained.
"Oh, don't you?" a disenbodied voice suddently said, as if from all around them.
"Oh, great. Another disembodied voice! Just what we need. What's the deal with these disembodied voices anyway? I mean, what a joke." Cogil said a a rather viceral tone to his voice.
"You should know the answer to this question, Ryan." The voice went on, as if not hearing Cogil's short rant.
"Me? Why me in particular?" Ryan asked the voice of mystery.
"Well you saw what was written on the divice in Subterranean Towz, for one thing. Doesn't that make it bovious what this is?" the voice asked.
"Oh yeah, we never did get an answer on that, did we? What did that device say on it anyway?" Vincent was suddenly asking.
"Well, it sai..." Ryan started to say but was interrutped by the voice again.
"We put these people into suspended animation many, many years ago. Before the transition even." Said the voice.
"Yes, but why? Why did you put them in suspension and why did you put them down here?" Cogil asked.
"We discovered something about dillemas of logic or ethics along time ago.
